Symptom

Users installing the Microsoft Windows Server on the affected systems experience issues accessing the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)/Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) after installing the OSA IPMI Mapping Layer and driver.

Note: for IBM System x3950 M2 (7141, 7233, 7234), IBM xSeries 460 (8872, 8874), IBM System x3950 (8878, 8879), only single node support is provided.

Solution

The OSA driver and mapping layer should not be installed on any system listed under affected items.

1. Install only the Microsoft IPMI Mapping Layer and driver.
2. Remove the OSA IPMI driver with the Uninstall Programs function in the Windows Control Panel.
3. Uninstall the OSA mapping layer with the uninstall option that is included in the latest version of the OSA mapping layer installation program.

For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, install the Microsoft IPMI driver from the second CD. The IPMI driver files are located in the \CMPNENTS\R2 directory.

The Microsoft IPMI driver and associated .inf file are included in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 (32-bit and 64-bit). They are copied to the \windows\systems32\ipmi directory but the driver is not installed. For Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) to capture IPMI logs and CPLD/FPGA code levels, the Control Panel/Add Hardware function should be used to manually install the driver as follows:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click Add Hardware.
3. Click Next at the welcome screen. Be patient while the wizard searches for the hardware but does not find it.
4. Select Yes, I have already connected the hardware and click Next.
5. Scroll down to Add a new hardware device, select it and click Next.
6. Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list and click Next.
7. Select Show all devices and click Next.
8. Click Have Disk.
9. Browse to \Windows\System32\Ipmi, select ipmidrv.inf and click Open.
10. Select either Microsoft Device.
11. Click Next to continue.
12. Click Finish.

Note: Use of the instructions at the following URL to create an Integrated Installation (AKA - Slipstream) of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and SP2 does not install the IPMI driver. To obtain the driver, the SP must be re-applied after the Operating System (OS) is installed.

수동설치로 해결을 할 수 있다고 합니다.
가끔 설치 할때 문제가 발생하면 위와 같이 처리하라는 내용이네요
BMC에 문제가 발생할수 있다고.
