4.4 Installing the RNDIS/CDC USB network device driver & the Integrated Management Module (IMM) firmware

To install the RnDis\CDC USB network device driver & the Integrated Management Module (IMM) firmware, complete the following steps:

1. Go to Software and device drivers
2. Click System x3650 M2
3. Select your machine type from the Type drop down menu.
4. Select "Windows Server 2003" or "Windows Server 2003 x64" from the Operating system drop down menu.
5. Select "Integrated Management Module (IMM)" from the Refine Results drop down menu and click Go.
6. Locate and download the firmware update utility for the Integrated Management Module (IMM).
7. Locate and download the README (.txt) file for the Integrated Management Module (IMM).
8. Follow the instructions in the README (.txt) file to install the Integrated Management Module (IMM).

Note: The RnDis\CDC USB network device driver automatically installs prior to the IMM firmware and clears the unknown device message as part of this total installation.

Problem(s) Fixed:

• This is a critical update for x3550 M2 and x3650 M2. It corrects a possible problem that can occur when adding options such as memory, hard drives, and Central Processing Units (CPUs), and makes the system may become unresponsive. In some cases the server cannot power on again, or network connectivity
  to the Integrated Management Module is not possible. The problem may also occur when rebooting the IMM while the system is powered on with certain hardware configurations.
• Replaced the ibm_rndis_server_os.inf and device.cat in the IMM firmware update package for Windows. The new files are used to workaround a potential performance issue when the IMM's Ethernet over USB is enabled
