리눅스의 경우 업데이트가 잘안되는경우가 있습니다

윈도우도 마찮가지이구요

아래 리테인 팁을 적용하면 둘다 잘 될듯합니다

IMM/UEFI FLASH FAILS RUNNING LINUX - (Updated)

Updated IBM System x RETAIN Tip: H195678

ISSUE:
The user flashes Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI),
Integrated Management Module (IMM), or IBM Dynamic System
Analysis (DSA) Preboot firmware under Linux.
The flashing process may stop at the following message:
The IMM is preparing to receive the update.
     Transferring image: 0%
ISOLATION AIDS:

     System x3550 M2, Type 7946, any model
     System x3650 M2, Type 4199, any model
     System x3650 M2, Type 7947, any model
iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, Type 6380, any model
iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, Type 7321, any model
iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, Type 7323, any model
- The system is configured with one or more of the following
  IBM Options:
     Intel Xeon E5520 Quad-core (2.26GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz)
     Processor (80 W), Option 46C7868
     Intel Xeon E5530 Quad-core (2.40GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz)
     Processor (80 W), Option 46C7870
     Intel Xeon E5540 Quad-core (2.53GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz)
     Processor (80 W), Option 46C7872
- The system is configured with at least one of the following:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, any update
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, any service pack
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11, any service pack
Notice: This does not imply that the network operating system
will work under all combinations of hardware and
          software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information:
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/
- The system has the symptom described above.
WORKAROUND:
There are four (4) workarounds for this issue.
Workaround 1:
Update the UEFI/IMM firmware using the IMM web interface or
AMM. See the "IMM Firmware Update for Linux" README file at the
following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=psg1MIGR-5079601
Workaround 2:
Update the UEFI/IMM/DSA Preboot firmware using Bootable Media
Creator.
Workaround 3:
Add the boot parameter "acpi=off" when booting up the system:
1. Boot up the system and press "e" in the GRUB booting menu
   list.
2. Choose "kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 ro
root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet" and press "e" to
   edit.
3. Add boot parameter "acpi=off" at the end.
   For example:
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 ro
        root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet acpi=off
4. Press Enter.
5. Choose "kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-128.el5 ro
root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet acpi=off" and press
"b" to boot into the kernel.
6. Perform UEFI/IMM/DSA Preboot firmware updates.
7. After flashing firmwares, remove the parameter and reboot
   the system.
Workaround 4:
Change the setting of CPU C-states in UEFI from <Enable> to
<Disable>:
1. When prompted during System POST, press <F1> to enter the
   Setup Utility.
2. Select System Settings. Press Enter.
3. Select Processors. Press Enter.
4. Select CPU C-States. Press Enter.
5. Select Disable. Press Enter.
6. Select Save Settings. Press Enter.
7. Select Exit Setup. Press Enter.
8. Return to the System Configuration and Boot Management page.
9. Press <Y> to Exit the Setup Utility. The System will reboot
   with the new Settings applied.
DETAILS:
Intel, Red Hat, SUSE, and IBM are still investigating this
issue.
C-States settings are believed to be related to this issue.
C-states are a part of the Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) specification and allow processors to go into
a low power mode when they are not busy. With Nehalem Central
Processing Units (CPUs), individual cores can be put into a
reduced power mode to save energy.
